American hip hop trio Salt N Pepa worked their way to the top of the game slowly, though with several landmarks. The first was their appearance, after Whitney Houston, at the Nelson Mandela birthday tribute televised around the world from Wembley stadium. A short while later Salt N Pepa released Push It as a B-Side, which accidentally became a hit on the charts. By the time Very Necessary was released (1993) Salt N Pepa were a Top 5 Billboard band.
